Phoebe Jane, daughter of Elder Levi and Eleanor J. Buchanan, was born in Putnam County, Indiana, July 6, 1867. She died January 16, 1939. She was married to James. M. Walls in 1883. Nine children were born to this union, six girls and three boys, three of whom have gone on before. Her entire life was spent in Putnam county, the early part near New Maysville, the latter in Roachdale. Her life, just as she lived it day by day, is a better obituary than one could write. She was indeed a true and good mother and a very devoted wife. She loved her neighbors and was never too tired or busy to help those in need. She had been in failing health for several years and when her companion of 56 years and was taken from her last February life seemed to lose its sweetness and each day found her more frail. She leaves to mourn her six children, 13 Greandchildren, a brother and a sister, besides many other relatives and friends.
